Mizzou Engineering Student Takes First Place in IEEE Computational Challenge

Wenlong “Waylon” Wu won top prize in the Technical Challenge on Energy Prediction with Smart Data sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computational Intelligence Society. He was the only student to be in the finals of the competition, held during the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society’s 2020 Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence earlier this week.

Student Wins Best Paper Finalist Award at IEEE Conference

Wenlong Wu won a Best Paper Finalist Award at an IEEE conference. A Mizzou Engineering student’s paper was selected as a finalist for best paper at a top engineering conference last week. What makes it more impressive is that Wenlong Waylon Wu forgot to specify that the paper should have been entered in the student category. Instead, it received high honors among professional-level faculty members and researchers from around the world.

CELDi Symposium Goes Virtual

As the University of Missouri campuses began preparations to move to remote teaching and telework in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Professor Jim Noble in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) was preparing for the Center for Excellence in Logistics and Distribution (CELDi) spring meeting and research symposium. Noble is the MU site director of CELDi, a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center.

Benjamin Steger, a senior in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and minoring in both military science and global digital studies, was awarded the Senior Hesburgh Scholarship by the University of Missouri Committee on Undergraduate Education.

Banquet Celebrates Excellence

Mizzou Engineering’s Office of Diversity and Outreach Initiatives (DOI) and the MU Center for Academic Excellence and Success hosted the third-annual Pursuit of Excellence (POE) Banquet Dec. 3. This banquet celebrates outstanding students, faculty and staff from Mizzou Engineering and offers an opportunity to inspire and congratulate members of the engineering community.
