The Entrepreneur Quest (EQ) Student Accelerator competition gives students with unique, innovative business ideas a chance to win $30,000 to make their ideas come to life. A third of the teams competing represent the College of Engineering with business ventures offering one-stop athletic apparel and equipment, tackling untrustworthy package delivery and connecting those who need tasks done to those who will complete them.

MU hosts roundtable on distracted driving

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), in conjunction with the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety and StopDistractions.org, held a “Distracted Driving Roundtable: Act to End Deadly Distractions” at the University of Missouri’s Columbia campus Oct. 29.

Civil Academy of Distinguished Alumni inducts newest members

On Sept. 6, the Mizzou Civil & Environmental Engineering Department inducted the newest members into its renowned Academy of Distinguished Alumni. Ronald Berry, David Brune, Peter Hartman, Bryan Hartnagel, Ray Kowalik and Brett Trautman made up the 2019 induction class.

Lighting the way to safer driving

A team of MU Civil and Environmental Engineering researchers discovered as much when they studied response to different types of lights on what are called truck mounted attenuators (TMAs) in mobile work zones — for example, road striping zones. TMAs are attached to a construction vehicle and typically contain lights alerting drivers to upcoming work zones and additional items such as lane closures, upcoming lane mergers, etc.
