Sabreena Anowar, assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Architectural Studies at MU, won a 2020 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU).
Mizzou Engineering Team Develops New Model to Predict Algae Growth
Two Mizzou Engineering departments have teamed up to develop a new computer model that will predict algae growth. The research has the potential to increase algae production—and that could lead to cleaner water supplies.
CEADA Annual Meeting Held
The MU Civil Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni (CEADA) held its annual meeting on Sept. 11. This organization is very active in its support of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). The event was held virtually this year for the safety and health of participants.
Building Big
Brooke Dean knows what she wants to do as a civil engineer. Dean, who is pursuing a master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is a 2020-2021 recipient of the James W. and Joan M. O’Neill Graduate Fellowship in Engineering.
Edara Named Department Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering
A familiar name will become the permanent chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), effective September 1 – current interim chair Praveen Edara.
Lifetime of Service
Ultrasound. Ground penetrating radar. Thermal imaging. You probably don’t think of these Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) technologies as necessary tools for bridge inspections. But Glenn Washer, professor of civil and environmental engineering, has conducted research that proves these technologies greatly enhance condition assessment of bridges, leading to improved inspections that help prevent accidents and collapses.
Using Big Data to Improve Traffic Flow
The digital sign flashes “Accident Ahead – Proceed With Caution” as drivers head along Interstate 70 in the St. Louis region. That usually means long delays for drivers as traffic builds up behind the accident. This also means a potentially serious accident that requires an immediate response from emergency personnel.
A ‘Corny’ Solution to Help Fight the Spread of the Novel Coronavirus
Inside the Mizzou Asphalt Pavement and Innovation Lab at the University of Missouri College of Engineering, Bill Buttlar normally leads a research team developing innovative ways to build better roads and stronger bridges. However, he’s recently converted his lab to also produce an ethanol-based hand sanitizer for use during the COVID-19 pandemic to help with the increase in demand for the product.
Accelerating Careers
Students can now earn a master’s degree (MS) in civil and environmental engineering in less time than a traditional master’s program. The department recently developed an accelerated master’s program in which some undergraduate coursework can also count toward your MS degree.
Improving Work Zone Safety
A sure sign that summer has arrived in Missouri is when the heat and humidity return. Another indication of summer is when the “Road Construction Ahead” signs pop up along the state’s highways, roads and streets. These signs usually indicate delays in getting to your destination.
