Alumnus Named Young Engineer of the Year
Mizzou Engineering alumnus Stephen Stinger recently was named the “Young Engineer of the Year” by the Western Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (MPSE). The award ceremony was held during the 69th Annual Engineers’ Week Celebration in Kansas City on Feb. 21. Stinger earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri in 2009 and his master’s in civil engineering from Mizzou in 2011.
A Gift of Life
In December 2019, the paths of two Mizzou families were linked forever as one Mizzou employee, Jami Thompson, gave the priceless gift of life by donating a kidney to a co-worker’s son, Tavian, just in time for Christmas.
St. Pat’s Board: Working Hard to Have Fun

The 5G Experience
This spring semester, 19 University of Missouri students are participating in a new immersive 5G course in partnership with AT&T. The course will explore the impact of wireless technology on college campuses and beyond.
The End of Moore’s Law
For 50 years, the industry has basically observed Moore’s Law, named after Intel co-founder Gordon Moore. He observed in 1965 that the number of transistors per silicon chip doubles every year. But researchers are beginning to say Moore’s Law is no longer a useful paradigm—a new architecture is needed for the computers and supercomputers of tomorrow. Mizzou Engineering Assistant Professor Matthias Young in the Department of Biomedical, Biological and Chemical Engineering is laying the groundwork for that new architecture.

MU alumni give $2 million gift to NextGen Precision Health Institute
A $2 million gift from University of Missouri alumni will support the university’s NextGen Precision Health Institute, the capital priority for the state’s flagship campus. University officials celebrated the gift from Mike Brown, a 1979 MU graduate, and his wife Millie Brown, a 1982 graduate.
Women in Engineering Week: Shining a Light on Diversity
The MU College of Engineering is a welcoming, inclusive college, and that message was the theme and the focus of Women in Engineering (WIE) Week, Feb. 17 – 21. Events got underway Feb. 17 with a kick-off social in Lafferre Hall, where Mizzou Engineering students had an opportunity to meet with the leaders of several student organizations that are co-sponsoring WIE Week this semester.
