New Cloaking Material Could Protect Buildings, Soldiers

Stealth technology, the idea of reducing the ability of the enemy to detect an object, has driven advances in military research for decades. Today, aircraft, naval ships and submarines, missiles and satellites are often covered with radar-absorbent material, such as paint, to hide or cloak them from radar, sonar, infrared and other detection methods. A cloak is a coating material that makes an object indistinguishable from its surroundings or undetectable by external field measurements.

Fales Elected Fellow of ASME

Roger Fales, an associate professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department and the Director of Student Success in the College of Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Two receive Department of Energy scholarships

Two Mizzou Engineering students made history this week when they were awarded prestigious national scholarships from the U.S. Department of Energy. Mark Korol and Dylan Parham each received $7,500 from the department’s Office of Nuclear Energy’s Integrated University Program.

3D Printers in Service to Others

A Mizzou student organization based in the College of Engineering recently has completed a pair of projects designed to help others. The 3D Printing Club (3DPC), which is open to any current student or employee of the university, had planned to ship a prototype of a prosthetic hand to a charity in India and did install a tactile map of the northwest section of campus in front of the south entrance to Jesse Hall in December.
