As a freshman, Mizzou Engineering undergraduate Sarah Gebken set a lofty goal — earn a spot National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program her senior year. The NSF GRFP is the oldest fellowship in the nation supporting graduate research, and it provides funding for outstanding students pursuing research-based graduate degrees at accredited universities nationwide.

Pfeiffer lauded as Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year

The University of Missouri has long been a champion of interdisciplinary collaboration, taking schools of thought from disparate academic fields and combining them in unexpected ways. Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year recipient Ferris Pfeiffer embraces this philosophy every semester. Pfeiffer, an assistant professor in Biomedical, Biological and Chemical Engineering, teamed up a few years back with Suzanne Burgoyne, an MU Curators’ Professor in Theatre, to incorporate actor-training methods and inspire creativity in engineering students.

Five Mizzou Engineering graduate students participated in the Research and Creative Activities Forum on Friday at Jesse Hall. The event was sponsored by the MU Graduate Professional Council, and the forum’s stated goal is “to showcase research and creative activities while providing valuable experience and feedback.”

Army Ants march to FIRST Robotics Championship event

The Army Ants FIRST Robotics team has been busy collecting awards and accolades at competitions, and they’ll try to claim the biggest of all next month. The team recently qualified for the FIRST Championship in April in Houston by finishing in the semifinals of the Rocket City Regional in Huntsville, Ala.
