Hunt Receives Emerging Professional Continuing Educator Award
Heather Hunt, an associate professor in Biomedical, Biological & Chemical Engineering Department in the the College of Engineering, took home the Adelle F. Robertson Emerging Professional Continuing Educator Award from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA).
MU Awards $260,000 to Accelerate Biomedical Discoveries from Lab to Market
The University of Missouri’s Coulter Biomedical Accelerator Program awarded four grants totaling $260,000 to help promising medical discoveries make the transition from laboratory research to commercial investment and direct patient care. The grants were announced at an awards ceremony on Nov. 5 at the MU School of Medicine.

Renovating History: Shamrock Plaza and Medallion Reconstruction Underway
On October 19, the shamrock was removed and the concrete around it was demolished as part of the first phase of a reconstruction project. Steve Borgelt, a Chancellor’s Professor in the Department of Biomedical, Biological and Chemical Engineering, says he decided about three years ago that the Shamrock Plaza and Medallion, which was constructed in 1921, needed to be renovated to match the well-maintained appearance of the historic buildings that surround Francis Quadrangle.
Students have chance to mingle with scholarship donors at annual dinner
The MU College of Engineering has awarded 547 students more than $1.2 million in scholarships for the current academic year. The recipients had an opportunity to meet and mingle with the friends and faculty of the College who fund their scholarships at the annual scholarship dinner at Memorial Union.
MU Engineering/School of Medicine researcher receives $3.7 million federal grant
With a $3.7 million federal grant, MU is taking the first step in an effort to produce a more effective immunotherapy treatment for cancer patients. This grant is part of the National Institutes of Health “Cancer MoonShot Initiative” whose goal is to make a decade’s worth of cancer research progress within five years, according to the NIH website.

BBCE’s Hammond lands distinguished Department of Energy award
Only 73 scientists nationwide — 46 at universities and 27 at national laboratories — received awards in September from the Department of Energy’s Early Career Research Program, which is “designed to bolster the nation’s scientific workforce by providing support to exceptional researchers during the crucial early career years, when many scientists do their most formative work.”
MU Engineering’s Lang, Wan attend key bioeconomy conference
Mizzou Engineering undergraduate Kyle Lang and faculty mentor Caixia Wan were among the 928 attendees from 34 countries and 42 states who descended on Des Moines, Iowa this summer for BIO World Congress 2019. This unique conference, focusing on the greater bioeconomy, presented the perfect venue for the first meeting of Cohort 3 of the Consortium for Advanced Bioeconomy Leadership Education (CABLE).
