MU Alumna is Role Model for Women Engineers

Sharon Langenbeck, BS ’74, MS ’76, PhD ’79, took an opportunity to support future Mizzou Engineers. She came back in 2019 to give a guest lecture about her experiences while at Mizzou and to meet with engineering students, faculty and staff. Now, in addition to Sharon being a role model for women engineers, she has pledged resources to help grow the number of women in the engineering field.

Mizzou Engineering Alumnus Part of Naval Team Studying Impact of UV Light on COVID-19

For his thesis project at Mizzou Engineering, Brett Huhman ’03, ’06, developed a method to use ultraviolet (UV) light to combat anthrax. While it was timely in the early 2000s, Huhman admits he never thought he’d return to that research. Then came COVID-19. Now, Huhman is part of a U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) team analyzing how well ultraviolet light sources can combat the coronavirus.

IMSE Hall of Fame Inducts New Members

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) held its annual IMSE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony virtually on Friday, Oct. 23. Five new inductees were enshrined into its hall of fame, which was established in 2008.

CEE Alumna Awarded MOVITE Young Transportation Professional of the Year

Kelly Schaefer, a Mizzou civil and environmental engineering (CEE) alumna, was awarded the 2020 Missouri Valley Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (MOVITE) Young Transportation Professional of the Year. MOVITE announced this honor at its virtual fall meeting.

CEADA Annual Meeting Held

The MU Civil Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni (CEADA) held its annual meeting on Sept. 11. This organization is very active in its support of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). The event was held virtually this year for the safety and health of participants.

Alumni help build facility for the future of Mizzou research

Jennifer Sullivan is a facilities project manager on the University of Missouri’s planning, design and construction team. She played a role in early site development for the NextGen Precision Health Institute, the university’s newest research facility. The institute, a cornerstone of the University of Missouri System’s NextGen Precision Health Initiative, is expected to be completed by Oct. 19, 2021.

Alumnus Named Young Engineer of the Year

Mizzou Engineering alumnus Stephen Stinger recently was named the “Young Engineer of the Year” by the Western Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (MPSE). The award ceremony was held during the 69th Annual Engineers’ Week Celebration in Kansas City on Feb. 21. Stinger earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri in 2009 and his master’s in civil engineering from Mizzou in 2011.
