Mizzou Engineering alumnus Stephen Stinger recently was named the “Young Engineer of the Year” by the Western Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (MPSE). The award ceremony was held during the 69th Annual Engineers’ Week Celebration in Kansas City on Feb. 21. Stinger earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri in 2009 and his master’s in civil engineering from Mizzou in 2011.  He became a professional engineer in January 2015 and works as a civil/structural engineer at Black & Veatch in the Kansas City area.

Stinger has worked on the design of reinforced concrete foundations and structural steel superstructures, and he has worked on multiple air quality control systems, coal, combined cycle, nuclear, oil and gas, telecommunications and water projects.

He is the current vice president of the Kansas City Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the former president and a current member of the Mizzou Engineering Recent Alumni Development (RAD) Board. Stinger also is the former lead advisor and a current advisor of the Black & Veatch Engineering Explorer Post, which introduces high school students to the various disciplines of engineering.

Stinger grew up in Belton, Missouri and now lives in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife Hannah.
