Volunteering with adaptive ski programs that allow people with disabilities to experience skiing is just one example of how University of Missouri students serve the global community. This winter break, 475 Mizzou students will volunteer across the country and in the Dominican Republic. Photo courtesy of MU News Bureau.

A total of 475 students took part in last week’s Mizzou Alternative Breaks, and among them were 24 Engineering students: Alexandra Crump, Liam Gray, Olivia LaVal, Margaret Page, Ethan Rackers, Jacquelyn Ware, Margaret Fields, Julia Ensor, Bailey Stewart, Austin Moser, Elexus Heidari, Will Mihm, Brooke Dean, Bailey Murphy, J.D. Peiffer, Benjamin Frailey, Katherine Phair, Amber Spriggs, Peyton Hubbard, Riley Hedgpath, Riley Jackson, Michael Barton, Jesus Vega and Genevieve Jones.

These students traveled to a variety of destinations in the U.S. or the Dominican Republic to do work on volunteer service projects during their winter break.

Students volunteered with an adaptive ski program in Park City, Utah, and organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Ronald McDonald House. Activities also included:

  • Serving the homeless populations in Washington, D.C., and North Carolina
  • Working with animal shelters in North Carolina, Mississippi and Texas
  • Providing health care with organizations in Tennessee and Pennsylvania
  • Building house for Habitat for Humanity in Alabama and South Carolina, and assisting with disaster relief projects in communities impacted by recent hurricanes
